BT Cameras Roll! Braintree Town Host Solihull Moors

By Tom Scott

Two sides with differing fortunes so far this campaign face-off for the first games in a BT Sport National League double header this weekend.

Solihull Moors are going great guns under the stewardship of Tim Flowers and will have full sympathy for their hosts Braintree Town.

The Moors were in a similar position to that of the Iron at this time last season and completed a great escape to secure another season of National League football.

Hakan Hayrettin was tasked with survival and has made an encouraging start with big wins against Bromley and Dover Athletic.

Striker Reece Grant has noticed a huge difference and insists we haven’t seen anywhere near what the Iron are capable of.

“It’s been a tough start with our early results and then with the change of manager,” he said. “It’s been a turbulent time but now we have a consistent squad week in, week out the results are coming, and things are looking up.

“The new management team have changed us mentally and laid out a blueprint they wanted us to follow. We have stuck to it which has brought us positive results and good performances.

“We definitely have more quality than we have shown because we have a lot of good players all over the park. We’ve found consistency and our quality is coming through and we are relishing the chance to show everyone what we’re really about and there’s no better chance to do that than being live in front of the cameras.”

It’s been a year since Tim Flowers arrived at Solihull Moors as Mark Yates’ assistant and now the ex-England goalkeeper has the top job at The ATG Stadium, things are looking up.
One of the highlights for the Moors has been the performances of midfielder Jamey Osborne who admitted he isn’t surprised by their barnstorming campaign so far.

He told us: “I feel the season is going really well. We are in a play-off position and in the second round of the FA Cup. “I’m not surprised about our current position, as we finished the campaign really well last season in what a lot of people called the great escape. We have a lot of experience and quality in all areas which has helped us get to where we are.

“The gaffer has been a big part in how well we’re doing. He came in last November and in a matter of weeks he pretty much turned the club around. He has brought in key players in the right areas which is showing now in our current league position.

“The lads will be looking forward to the cameras being there as we don’t get our games live very often. But it will be a tough game down at Braintree, especially as they have picked up as of late.”
