Brennan Names His Title Favourites As The Top Turns Tense

Dean Brennan is certain the team who finishes above Forest Green Rovers will be champions.

The Barnet manager says their promotion rivals’ eye-catching recruitment paired with experienced “winner” Steve Cotterill makes them the title favourites - and not his table toppers.

On Saturday night, Barnet jumped ahead of Rovers thanks to their third goal at Wealdstone, hours after Forest Green climbed over York City and into first place.

All three of them sit on 21 points after a sensational start to the new campaign and Brennan is happy to provide the entertainment.

“It’s been a really good to the new season,” the Irishman told the National League when asked to sum up the situation at the top.

“For me, Forest Green are the favourites for the division for the investment they have made.

“They’ve got an experienced manager and some superb players. My job is to make us do better than last year when we came second. So that’s to come top!

“York City as well, they’re right up there and the new manager has already done a great job there. There’s lot of good sides, Oldham who we haven’t mentioned aren’t losing games, and Hartlepool United too.

“There are so many good managers in this division and there’s just no easy games, every match presents a different challenge.

“But for me, whoever however finishes above Forest Green Rovers will win it.”

He was thrilled with the 3-0 win at rivals Wealdstone but knows things will be tougher at Aldershot Town tonight.

“We needed to stay mentally focused at important moments and we did that,” he said. “It was a really professional second half performance but Tuesday will be really demanding.

“Aldershot have a really good side who have already shown they will score goals this season.”
