Braintree Bring in New Striker

By Steve Whitney

Braintree Town manager Jamie Day has continued his squad re-building by signing striker Jack Midson from Vanarama National League rivals Eastleigh.

The 32-year-old front man started his career as a youngster at Stevenage Borough and many Iron fans will remember him from his three years that followed at neighbours Bishop's Stortford in the mid-noughties.

He then enjoyed a successful season and a half at Histon, where his 25 goals in sixty-seven games played an important part in the Bridge Road side that reached the then Conference Premier play-offs.

Five years followed in the Football League, the first two seasons at Oxford United the next three at AFC Wimbledon, where Midson scored 38 goals in 126 games, before spending the past two years at Eastleigh.

Day was pleased with his latest addition: "Jack has a proven pedigree at this level and above. I think he got a bit frustrated last season but I know he's raring to go and will do really well for us.

“The lads are working hard in training, but I've still got a bit of work to finish over the next few days when I hope to add two or three more players to the squad".
