A 1-1 draw at Curzon Ashton was enough to depose inactive Chorley for the first time since August.
But Avenue manager Mark Bower says his team aren’t exactly jumping with joy.
Having taken the lead at Curzon they were cut up they didn’t see the win through but the Bradford boss called for them to look at the bigger picture.
“We’ve gone top of the league but if you were in our dressing room you wouldn’t have thought that’s the case,” he said on the club’s video service.
“We were the better side and we were the side looking to win the game but we couldn’t quite get those three points.
“I don’t think we played well but we were on top - I think Curzon were set up for the point and they’ve got it.
“The frustrating thing is having gone in front we let them back in with a sloppy goal.
“Maybe we have to manage our expectations a little bit now. We have come away from home to a team in the top half and secured a point with players out.
“We’re five unbeaten now but it’s mixed emotions really.”
