Brackley Boss Cowan Happy To Have A Favourite

Brackley Town boss Gavin Cowan happily admits he has a favourite in his squad - and doesn’t care who knows it!

While managers will nearly always say no player gets special treatment, the Saints boss says skipper Gaz Dean is his number one.

It helps that the talismanic centre-back is handy at both ends of the pitch.

He scored the winner against Marine in their last National League North outing on Saturday and regularly churns out Man of the Match performances.

Cowan spoke to the Northampton Chronicle about the club’s season so far and what’s to come.

After more play-off agony last May, the manager is desperate to take the team up - and a third win in a row keeps them fighting on all fronts.

He said. “Other managers say they haven't got favourites, but they're liars.

"My favourites aren't based on their hair colour or whether they're good looking, have nice clothes and are good guys.

“It’s based on whether they're committed to what we do on the pitch and what we're trying to do as a football club. Gaz typifies that.”

Brackley are aiming to go the same way as National League Woking did last summer - being turned over by Ramsgate.

The Step 4 club caused a huge shock and when they face them in the FA Cup on Saturday Cowan knows they must be on their guard.

“Having seen bits of them already, they're very, very good and us being complacent is the worst thing we can do,” he told the publication.
