Bower Believes Alty Defeat Can Help His Park Avenue Side

Mark Bower feels Bradford Park Avenue’s defeat to Altrincham on Saturday could actually be a blessing in disguise.

PA had been good in pre-season form until they came unstuck against the Evo-Stik NPL Premier Robins, relegated from the Vanarama National League North last season.

The 4-2 defeat, Bower thinks, will ensure the club don’t go into their opener against Tamworth on Saturday will misguided belief that they can do no wrong.

He said: “As it happens, I think the weekend could be a good thing for us in a number of ways.

“Nobody likes losing games of football, but we didn’t want to go into Tamworth under the impression we haven’t got things to work on.

“It highlighted the fact that we’ve got or two issues we need to iron out and it’s going to be a busy week in training as we look to put that right.

“It raised one or two things, it could be good for us because we know the game on the weekend is going to be really challenging.”

On Altrincham, Bower said: “They’ve cleared the decks after last season when they had a bad year and they’ve signed players easily good enough to play at our level.

“They’ll do well in the Evo-Stik League I would have thought. But we looked alright in pre-season up until Saturday.

“We don’t see any reason why we can’t push on next season in what is a fantastic division to be a part of.”
