For the first time ever, clubs south and north of the border will be joined in a domestic competition - and the excitement is growing.
The two National League clubs will be tuned in at 1.00pm at Gretna Green as they find out who they are to face in round two on a unique afternoon.
Gretna is fittingly right on the Anglo-Scottish dividing line so there’s no better place for see the two sporting countries come together.
Former Scotland international Stuart McCall will be on hand to draw the balls alongside Team GB Olympian Ross Murdoch and host Gavin Wallace.
Sutton United manager Paul Doswell says being in the IRN-BRU Cup offers so many advantages having qualified alongside Wood as the teams finishing the highest last term having not earned promotion.
“It’s a new adventure and an exciting one as well,” said Doswell, whose side have a great FA Cup tradition of course.
“It’s going to test us in terms on the competitions we are in but the players prefer to play and not train! It’s something we’re delighted to be involved in.
“It’s a different type of team we’ll be playing as we are really looking forward to the matches and being part of something really unique.
“It will be a team bonding exercise as well but we want to go as far as we can.”
Boreham Wood boss Luke Garrard said: “I think that it will give the players an added incentive and I am extremely excited that we have the luxury of possibly travelling around the British Isles for a fixture, I think that is a huge achievement.”
