Blyth Issue Statement Denying Armstrong Speculation

In a joint statement from chairman Tony Platter and manager Alun Armstrong, Blyth Spartans have announced that speculation regarding leaving the club are without foundation.

Armstrong confirmed: I have a contract of employment with the club that includes the option for a further twelve months.

The management committee, finances, stability and most importantly Croft Park readiness for Full Conference football were all part of my reason for coming to Blyth in the first place.

The team is performing excellently in the League and my ambition is to take the club forward.

I am flattered that my performance since taking over at Blyth has been recognised but I reiterate that my future is with Blyth Spartans."

Chairman Platten confirmed that he had been contacted by a local club but advised them that Armstrong had an existing contract of employment. In football there are rules and regulations regarding players and managers contracts but with modern communication devices it is almost impossible to stop contact and speculation.

As Armstrong commented in a previous statement: The best way to help him move the club forward was for the people of Blyth to turn up at Croft Park and support the team.

“Recent matches have been outstanding entertainment and Saturday's win at Stockport County cemented the Spartans in third place in the league and joint top goalscorers".
