Big Night Ahead In The National League North And South

By Sam Elliott

The action comes thick and fast with a full programme in the National League North and South this evening.

September starts with another round of league fixtures - and the leaders aren’t keen at all to give up their top spot thrones any time soon.

Well there is very little chance of that happening in the National League North over the next few hours. That’s because Scunthorpe United already boast not only a three point lead but a healthy goal difference.

That said, tonight is a big one - the table toppers go to second place Curzon Ashton in a meeting of two impressive good starters.

King’s Lynn Town fans will also be thrilled with what they’ve seen so far. They make the long trip to Scarborough, who are also sitting nicely in the top seven.

Hereford have moved nicely into third place but face a Needham Market side in a good place following their first victory last time out.

Kidderminster and Chester both have serious promotion ambitions and can send a message with a super show at Aggborough later on.

There’s an early season scramble for points at the wrong end as Rushall Olympic welcome Marine while Brackley need to get things going but a win for Chorley could have them in the top seven tonight.

Those hunting promotion would have been boosted by last night’s results.

Well backed Boreham Wood were downed by Worthing while Dorking Wanderers found themselves well beaten at Aveley.

That means Hemel Hempstead take over at the top but it won’t be for long if Slough Town leave Weston-super-Mare winners.

It’s a big ask for Scott Davies’ side - the Seagull have won four in a row.

Torquay United can apply some pressure if they defeat Chippenham Town at home as the managers at the bottom start to get twitchy.

Weymouth and pointless and goalless - the Terras need that to change when Hampton & RB arrive in Dorset later on.

St Albans City are struggling too and David Noble wants his side’s season to get that first-win lift at Tonbridge Angels.

It’s not been the start anyone at Chelmsford City was hoping for after last season’s promotion challenge. They need to move out of the bottom four and fast against Maidstone United, who are also at the wrong end.
