It’s been an up and down summer for the Heed and manager Steve Watson. The club announced they were reverting back to part-time status which sparked speculation about the future of some of their prized assets.
But Barrow insists he wanted to stay on Tyneside for the coming campaign and he told the club’s official website why he made the decision to sign on.
“It’s been a stressful summer,” he said. “But it’s good to get everything sorted. I’m glad I’ve signed on and want to get the season going.
“I was happy here last year. It was one of my best footballing seasons I’ve had in a long time.
“The gaffer staying on as well was a key turning point for me.”
Barrow played 46 times last season and will be hoping to continue the kind of form that won him the Club’s and fan’s Player of the Season awards.
Gateshead’s off the field issues have been well documented with the club reverting to part-time status. Barrow said he turned down attractive offers from elsewhere as he simply couldn’t leave the club.
“I turned down some good offer, some unbelievable offers from other clubs but I didn’t really want to go anywhere else.
“The situation the club is in at the moment, I couldn’t leave. I wanted to give it another crack.”
