The Bluebirds were well-beaten 3-1 at Plainmoor as Torquay moved off the bottom of the National League table.
The result leaves Barrow just a point above the bottom four and facing a huge game at home against Hartlepool United next Saturday.
It was Pennock’s first away defeat as Barrow boss but he was left apologising to the travelling supporters after a sub-par performance.
He told the club’s website: “We were very poor. For 70 minutes they were better than us all over the pitch and it wasn’t good enough.
“We deserved what we got and I’d like to apologise to the fans who travelled up today, it’s a long way to come and to give that performance for 70 minutes just isn’t good enough.
“They were awful goals to concede, but I’m not taking anything away from Torquay, they deserved the three points and at the end of the day, we’ve just got to forget about it and move on.
“I know it was our first away loss but still it just wasn’t good enough for everyone involved with Barrow football club and it wasn’t good enough for where we want to go and what we want to do.”
