Barnet And York City All Set For First vs Second Showdown

By Sam Elliott

The game of the season needs little in the way of an introduction as York City gear up for the visit to Barnet with both managers accepting it’s a big one.

The National League leaders host the second place Minstermen looking to put the record straight after goals from Marvin Armstrong, Alex Hunt and Ollie Pearce knocked them top off top spot in October.

Since then, the clubs have shared the leadership with Forest Green Rovers in what appears to be - for now at least - a brilliant three horse race.

But can one of the sides strike a significant blow on Tuesday night, in a match you can watch live.

York City will be cheered on a over 1,000 fans in the north west London, knowing victory to take them to within a point of Dean Brennan’s side. But if it’s another home win? Well then we’ll have clearly favourites for the first time this season.

Barnet will fancy opening up a seven-point gap. After all, they’ve won 13 of their 16 home games so far and are undefeated at The Hive. York’s win at bottom side Ebbsfleet United was their sixth away success of the season.

Adam Hinshelwood is impressed with his side’s ability to grind out results and thinks that could play a big part in what’s ahead.

“Obviously we want to play a certain style of football, and we definitely didn’t do that today, but ultimately, it’s about grinding out and picking up results,” he said.

Barnet boss Brennan spoke to Sunday’s Non-League Paper and detailed how close things are.

“This thing could go down to goal difference,” he said. “My focus is to keep everyone’s feet on the floor.

“But we’ve created an excitement around the club. Let’s see where it takes us.”

He spoke to DAZN ahead of the game and said: "Adam Hinshelwood has done a great job, hasn't he? You've got to give him a lot of credit, for getting them out of relegation and now into a title race.

"You can have all the money in the world, but you've got to spend it right and he's done that really well.

"Ollie Pearce has been an outstanding player. Marvin Armstrong, who we sold to them, has done great, they've all done great, and they are having a fantastic season. We're looking forward to it."
