Back On Top And Ricketts Has Plenty To Be Happy About

What pleased Sam Ricketts most about Wrexham’s 3-1 win over Gateshead wasn’t the fact his team went back to the top of the National League.

It was that his side showed their ability to overcome a set-back after being clawed back.

The Red Dragons are the third league leader in a week after their victory and Salford City’s slip up at Eastleigh.

Ricketts was a happy man after the game but it wasn’t just being top of the pile which put a smile on his face.

He said: “The fact that we held strong when they scored was really pleasing.

“We know they’re a really decent side so we knew we would have to be at our best.

“To play as well as we did and respond when we had to was so pleasing. It was an excellent performance from the players.

“It’s a nice feeling to be back on top but I’ve said all along it’s not where we are now that matters.”
