A goal ahead and looking well placed to progress, the lights went out on Rovers in the all-National League battle.
The sides will go again on Monday night after the floodlight failure put paid to Saturday’s match.
Mellon says he is committed to winning the re-arranged tie - despite a big game at Sutton United on Saturday.
“What can you do? I feel sorry for the fans who have made the long journey down,” the manager told the club’s website.
“A goal up just before half time and the game has to be called off, clearly it’s disappointing.
“But we have all got to move on and get on with it now.
“We were a goal up and the game was going OK, but we no have to come back and it’s a shame.
“We have a game at Sutton United on Saturday so we will have a think about what team we will put out for the rearranged game but we always field a side that we think will get Tranmere a result.”
