Away Win 'No Smash And Grab' Says Romans Boss Gill

Bath City secured a superb away win at Oxford City on Saturday – a victory that puts them within four points of the league leaders.

The Romans have struggled to emulate their brilliant home form on the road, but a last-gasp winner delighted manager Jerry Gill, who told Somerset Live that he thought it was exactly what his side deserved.

“I thought the players were really positive,” he said. “It’s a really, really pleasing away performance and a pleasing win.

“This isn’t a smash and grab win, this is us coming away with a really good attacking away performance and it’s great to finally get that away win.”

Gill continued, “I’m really pleased for the boys because they’ve had a really good week and there’s a strong togetherness in the group.

“They’re all playing their part and there’s a lot of confidence in the dressing room right now.”

The result was only City’s second win on the road all season – something that you’d think would deter fans from travelling to Oxford.

But the fans who travelled weren’t forgotten by Gill after the game and he was keen to praise them for their support.

“I also wasn’t to do a special mention to the fans today,” he said. “It was a great away support, it really as, and it does help us.

“They were singing from the start to the very end and we all felt like the goal would come. It’s great for the lads to go over and celebrate with them so a special thank you to the fans. They’ve been terrific.”
