But it’s no secret that the sides with the best away records often end up in the promotion mix come the end of the season.
We’ve looked through the National League to see which clubs give their travelling faithful the most to shout about. And who exactly needs to improve?
1. Macclesfield Town (Won 9; Drawn 2; Lost 3)
Macclesfield Town celebrate another goal on the road
2. Sutton United (Won 8; Drawn 3; Lost 4)
3. Aldershot Town (Won 7; Drawn 5; Lost 3)
4. Boreham Wood (Won 5; Drawn 8; Lost 2)
5. Dover Athletic (Won 5; Drawn 7; Lost 2)
The National League leaders top another table. Macclesfield have been superb on the road this season, picking up over two points a game (29 from 14). They’ve conceded just 11 goals in 14 games - impressive.
Sutton United and Aldershot Town are also up there and their away results have helped them maintain their strong positions in the League table.
Boreham Wood and Dover Athletic, meanwhile, have lost the fewest amount of games on their travels this season. Both clubs, who sit sixth and seventh in the League table respectively, have lost just twice.
Fourth-placed Wrexham have been let down by their away record this season, winning only five of their 13 fixtures on the road. The Dragons have scored nine goals in 13 games - the fewest in the entire division. AFC Fylde, meanwhile, have netted the most away from home, scoring 23 times in 15 matches.
20. Leyton Orient (Won 3; Drawn 4; Lost 7)
21. Woking (Won 3; Drawn 2; Lost 8)
22. Solihull Moors (Won 3; Drawn 2; Lost 10)
23. Torquay United (Won 2; Drawn 3; Lost 10)
24. Guiseley (Won 2; Drawn 3; Lost 10)
Despite their difficult season so far, you would have expected Leyton Orient to be much higher on this list. An average of a goal a game certainly isn’t helping.
Woking sit 15th in the National League table but their away record this season has definitely been their sticking point. The Cards have lost eight of their 13 fixtures on the road.
The bottom three in the away table all sit in the relegation places too. Solihull Moors, Torquay United and Guiseley have all lost ten games on their travels and the Lions are bottom due to their poor goal difference. They’ve conceded 37 times in 15 games and big improvement is needed if they are to stay up.
