Aspin Proud Of Battling Gateshead Draw

Neil Aspin was full of praise for his side after they drew 2-2 against Maidstone United after they went 2-0 down with ten men.

The Gateshead boss says their point and performance was exactly what he wanted to see how they fell behind and saw Theo Vassell get sent off just ten minutes into the game, writes Tom Feaheny.

Speaking to the club's website after the draw, Aspin said.

"Sometimes when you draw, you feel you've lost points, but we feel it was a point gained, I'm pleased with the attitude of all the players, they showed a great desire to keep going.

"We went down to ten men, the sending off seemed to galvanize us, we got our rewards in the end."

Aspin said even he thought it was probably going to be a loss for the side after they conceded the second goal.

"I thought at 2-0 down, it was a long way back but we got the goal at the right time, it gave us some belief, we deserved the point in the end."

The Heed boss was delighted as well to see both his strikers get on the scoresheet.

"It is important that forwards get goals, it builds their confidence and it was two good goals that have helped us get this result."
