Aspin Pleased With Battling Gateshead Point

Gateshead drew 1-1 away from home against Sutton United, in a game that saw both sides score a penalty each.

Neil Aspin says his side showed determination to get a point away at Gander Green Lane, after they could not be seperated, writes Tom Feaheny.

The Heed bounced back from defeat against Dag & Red by gaining the draw, and speaking to the club's website, Neil Aspin admitted he was pleased with the outcome of the match.

"It is a difficult fixture and we have gained a point, first-half we did okay, second-half we kept possession okay but we have to hold our hands up and say we were a bit lucky as they created.

"Of course you don't want to be pushed back, but they had impetus with the substitutions they made, but it is so important we got the point.

Striker Danny Johnson got on the scoresheet and Aspin is hoping it can lead to him getting plenty more.

"Danny is a goal scorer, he had his chance today and took it well, I'm delighted for him, he's the type of player, once he gets one, he can go on a run and get a few, it will have done his confidence the world of good."

They next face Chester at home on Tuesday night and Aspin wants his team to recover well before then.

"They have changed their boss, we have a long journey back, we have to ensure we get some more energy in our legs for Tuesday night."
