Aspin: Crucial First Win For Gateshead

The Heed picked up their first three points of the season after beating Guiseley 1-0 at home.

They defeated Guiseley thanks to a Niall Byrne header that secured them a 1-0 win, writes Tom Feaheny.

After Neil Aspin's side were defeated by Woking at the weekend, the manager summed the game up and knew his team had worked hard for the win.

"It was a tough game, it was a hard fought win, we deserved it in the end, I have a lot of respect for Guiseley, I knew it would be a tough game and it was.

"The second half we edged it and that was pleasing."

This match also saw Cal Williams make his debut after joining on loan from Premier League side Newcastle United, Aspin was full of praise for their new signing.

"We are grateful to Newcastle for the way they handled the deal, we had a couple of injuries, he had a really good debut, he is a good footballer, the main thing was he wanted to come to the club and has a good attitude."

They next face Torquay at home on Saturday but Aspin knows it will be another tough match.

"We need to follow it up, every game is dog eat dog it will be another match that tests us."
