Aspin Calls For Improvements Ahead Of Season Starting

Gateshead boss Neil Aspin says their 3-0 loss away at Harrogate Town left a lot to be desired.

The Heed were defeated by the National League North opposition who won thanks to goals from George Thomson and a Jordan Thewlis double, writes Tom Feaheny.

Aspin told the club's website he knows that it was not good enough.

"We know that performance isn't what we wanted it to be and it's not going to win any games in the league that we are in."

"I understand that we need to be much better than that and it is my job to ensure that is the case."

"We've got to get it right for the Woking game."

The manager took positives from the match that no one will miss any of the season due to the game, with him admitting players had to miss out because of Town's 3G surface.

"Obviously you don't want to be going into the season on the back of a poor performance but I must say that the priority was to give a few more players some minutes on the pitch.

"We needed to try and get through the game without getting injuries and there were a couple of players who couldn't play on the surface.
