Askey Tells Macc Squad To Stand Up And Be Counted

Manager John Askey says it is up to the whole squad to respond on Friday when Macclesfield Town face Dover Athletic at the Moss Rose, following successive away defeats.

The Silkmen started the season strongly, with victory on the road at Wrexham and back-to-back draws with strong opposition in Hartlepool and Bromley at home.

Unfortunately, after a late defeat at Sutton and a game that got off on the wrong foot at Gateshead, points have been dropped.

Speaking to www.mtfc.co.uk following the defeat to Gateshead, Askey said: “It’s up to everybody to respond. They’ve all got to stand up and be counted and you’ve got to prove that you’re good enough to play in the team. If you can’t then you should be looking over your shoulder.

“As we keep saying, every game is a tough one. It doesn’t matter who you play. Come Dover hopefully we can perform better – if we do, we’ve got a chance.

“It’s a chance to put things right. No one goes out there and performs badly on purpose, everybody wants to do well. Hopefully that will be the case on Friday, and if they go out there with the right attitude, that’s the start we need”.
