Askey Still On The Hunt For New Additions

They may be second in the Vanarama National League but Macclesfield Town manager John Askey knows there's always room for improvement.

The experienced boss is on the look out for fresh talent to bolster his squad and maintain their superb start.

Forest Green loanee Shamir Mullings had to depart Moss Rose due to injury earlier this week having not played a game for the Silkmen after joining only days before.

Askey's search continues ahead of their home game against Boreham Wood on Saturday.

“We have a very strong squad, but it’s also very small in terms of numbers," he said.

“It only takes one or two injuries and it can be the difference between getting promoted and not. It’s important for the whole football club that we’re covered in case of injury or any other absences. We don’t want to leave ourselves short.

“They have to be quality though. They need to make a difference and push the ones that are already here. The players have shown that they’re more than good enough for this level and, potentially, the league above too.

“We’re doing well at the minute, so you hope that makes us attractive to potential signings. We need people to compliment what we’re already doing.”
