However, pre-season was an eventful one for John Askey and his new-look team as they welcomed four higher leagues sides to Moss Rose.
The Silkmen claimed scalps against League 2 Crewe and League 1 Bury, as well as holding their own against the likes of Championship promotion hopefuls Derby and newly promoted Blackpool.
Speaking to the club`s official website (mtfc.co.uk) after the Blackpool game, Askey said how pre-season went: “It’s been good we’ve not got any injuries and that’s the main thing that everybody looks fit.
“I thought we did well on Saturday. When we changed things, we fell apart a little bit but I know the reason why, but I’ve been pretty pleased.
“I think if somebody said to us in the summer that we were going to do this well in pre-season we’d have snapped their hands off but it means nothing, all we’re doing now is concentrating on Wrexham.
“They’ve all been tough games. I thought against Derby we did really well and we conceded when we changed the team. Bury was a good result and to get a win against a League One club was also very good. Then against Stockport we fell apart when we changed the team, and then the last game versus Crewe was a good result and it could’ve been more.
“We weren’t getting carried away after beating Crewe and we won’t get carried away about losing today because again I thought we were in the game and we created the best chance of the match.
"Overall it’s gone well so hopefully we can put in more good performances in the league”.
