Askey: Fitness Levels & Team Spirit Guiding Silkmen Forward

Macclesfield Town boss John Askey says he couldn't have asked anymore from his players or the volunteers of the club as their successful season continues.

The Silkmen are now nine points clear at the top of the Vanarama National League table after a 1-0 win against Chester.

This victory though was helped by the ground staff who ensured despite heavy rain, the pitch was playable.

They are next up against Ebbsfleet United, a game that is live on BT Sport.

"It is so important that we have all pulled together as a team, I thought the game wouldn't happen but the work done on the pitch was done and done really well," Askey told MID Communications.

"The fitness of the players shines through, they look after themselves and it shows, to play games like this in difficult conditions, that is the reason we are where we are."

Nearly 3000 fans were in attendance with Askey saying they played their part in the win as well.

"The crowd were vocal as they were at Woking, they were pushing us and helped keep us going."
