Ashton Puts Name Forward For Nuneaton Job

Jon Ashton was in charge for Nuneaton Town's loss against Stockport County, he admits he would like the role on a permanent basis.

Ashton, took charge of his first game just hours after Tommy Wright’s departure, who has gone to Darlington, writes Tom Feaheny.

“It’s been a bit of a whirlwind, I am making no excuses I enjoyed taking charge and would like to be a manager, if it's here at Nuneaton that would be good either now or later," Ashton said to the Coventry Telegraph.

Reflecting on the loss at home Ashton admitted history repeated itself in how they conceded.

“I don’t want to make excuses for the boys, but it does throw you as a player when your manager leaves, particularly on the eve of a game.

“It happens in football, but it was a similar story of us conceding goals because of silly mistakes."

“We could have been two or three goals up before they took the lead and then conceding a second just before the break made it difficult for us."
