Despite defeating Middlesborough's under 23s 4-2 at the weekend and making progress in training, Armstrong knows just how important the 5th of August will be, writes Tom Feaheny.
Armstrong spoke to the club's website as the campaign gets close to starting.
"It is still pre-season and we need to be ready and ensure as a group we are all prepared for this roller-coaster that we are taking part in."
"The lads got a real buzz off of the fans during the home games so far and we appreciate that, we want to build on this during the matches."
Reflecting on their home victory, the manager was pleased with what he saw.
"I thought the football we played and the chances we created was very impressive, we had our midfielders doing different things and impressing in that area."
Armstrong though knows how important the start of the season will be as he hopes they can start strongly.
"It is now really important that we keep our feet on the ground, not get carried away and make sure that we take these performances into the league campaign."
Blyth next face Morpeth Town on Tuesday, with Armstrong saying his whole squad need to get game time.
"It is so important that the lads get more minutes, we will make changes, those who were on the bench at the weekend will start that game."
