Armstrong Releases McTiernan But Keeps Majority Of His Squad

Midfielder David McTiernan has been released by Blyth Spartans.

Following the news that defender David Atkinson had left to join Icelandic side IBV, manager Alun Armstrong revealed that 33-year-old former Whitby Town and Harrogate Town man McTiernan, who joined Spartans in February 2017, was leaving the club.

Armstrong told the club`s official website: “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank ‘Macca’ for his services during his time at the club.”

“He was an integral part of the side that clinched the double – earning the club promotion to the National League North.

“He was a massive part of the changing room and will be a big miss – the travelling has caught up with him over the season.”

“We wish ‘Macca’ all the best in whatever he does going forward.”

McTiernan (pictured) made forty-five appearances for Blyth Spartans, scoring 6 goals.

Meanwhile, manager Armstrong, who signed a new two-year deal recently, announced the retention of the majority of the remainder of his squad for the 2018/19 season.

Goalkeepers Peter Jameson and Shaun MacDonald, defenders Nathan Buddle, Andrew Cartwright, Ryan Hutchinson, Michael Liddle, Ian Watson and Jordan Watson, midfielders Dale Hopson, Lewis Horner, Jordan Laidler, Damen Mullen, Jarrett Rivers, Sean Reid and Adam Wrightson plus forwards Daniel Maguire, Robbie Dale and Jack Butler have all agreed to remain at Croft Park.
