Ammies Are Really Progressing Says Thrilled Alexander

Salford City manager Graham Alexander is excited by how his team are shaping up ahead of the new season.

The Ammies begin their maiden National League campaign against Leyton Orient in three weeks’ time, a match live on BT Sport.

It may have been a 1-0 defeat to Barnsley in pre-season on Saturday but City showed why they are among some of the clubs being talked about for promotion.

“I thought the performance was excellent,” he told the National League’s Oli Osborn. “We were compact and disciplined and we controlled how we wanted to play against good opponents.

“I thought we lost a little bit of shape for ten or 15 minutes just before half-time but in the second half I thought we were the better team.

“I thought it was a good game for both teams and I was delighted with the players.”

He added: “We just needed to have a step up in the intensity we play at, the patterns of play and the defensive discipline we show.

“I have certainly seen that game-by-game. That was a real test for us today and I was delighted by how we performed.”
