The struggling Dolphins took the lead in the first-half but Allinson’s men fought back late on at Clarence Park.
Rhys Murrell-Williamson equalised with 20 minutes left and then Percy Kiangebeni popped up deep into stoppage time to secure the Saints’ third straight victory.
The result strengthened St Albans’ play-off spot and kept up their outside hopes of gatecrashing the title race. But did they deserve the three points? Not a chance!
“I think we were second best from the minute we kicked off and we never retained possession all afternoon,” Allinson told the club’s YouTube channel.
“We’ve got away with murder today to be honest. We made a couple of changes, went two up front and got very fortunate with the first goal.
“Then the game was stretched and we got the winner in the 94th minute. The commitment from the players to stay in the game was fantastic.
“We’ve won the last three games but in the past six or so matches, we haven’t played with real fluidity. We did say it would be nice to start winning games ugly and we have!”
