Chesterfield’s 1-0 home defeat to Leyton Orient was their fifth loss on the bounce.
It is a far cry from the first few games with three back-to-back victories giving the relegated League Two club the perfect start to National League life.
Allen insisted he “enjoyed” his team’s latest performance - and he won’t be over-reacting to a return of zero points from a possible 15.
“I actually thought this was one of the best performances we've had so far this season," the manager said.
“I have got to help these players, not crucify them. They are giving it their all.
“It was an improved performance from the last few - I enjoyed it. I liked a lot of what I saw.
“We could have done a few things better but we aren’t far off. We will turn the corner.
“It was a bitter pill to swallow letting in the goal when we did and how we did but we were the better team.”
Chesterfield face Boreham Wood on Tuesday night looking to bounce back.
