All To Play For In The National League North & South Again

By Sam Elliott

The National League North and South are back to full strength on Saturday - so let’s take a little look at what’s in store.

Last weekend’s FA Cup action meant it was a diluted programme and while the leaders weren’t dislodged, there’s no guarantees on that this time.

Tamworth’s fourth qualifying round blow was softened after the chasing pack all failed to take advantage of their cup commitments.

But with things so close to call, they’ll likely need a result at Blyth Spartans to stay at the head of the National League North table. Spennymoor want to make up for the missed opportunity - defeated at Brackley- and they’re at home to Boston United.

South Shields could have been heading into the weekend leading the way but threw it away at Warrington so they’ll be desperate to make amends when King’s Lynn Town pay them a visit.

If things really go their way, Scunthorpe United could even return to the top after a challenging few weeks. They’ll need to win at Chester for that to happen - and the Seals have already won four times at home.

Southport are sitting second in the form guide, they head to Peterborough Sports, while Josh Gowling’s Darlington are looking to climb off the bottom but won’t have an easy ride at Banbury United.

Just goal difference has Yeovil Town ahead of Taunton Town at the top of the National League South.

The Glovers have won their last six in all competitions but face their toughest test for some time - a trip to promotion contenders Worthing.

Should they slip up, the Peacocks will replace them if they can get one over Hampton & RB, who last weekend defeated Dartford to move away from the bottom four with their second win on the spin.

Bath City are ready and waiting and want to keep their great start going at Jay Saunders’ Tonbridge Angels. Maidstone United are the division’s form side and can crank up the pressure with a win over Farnborough.

Torquay United can’t afford a third league defeat in a row especially after their FA Cup exit - the Gulls are at home to Welling United holding onto the final play-off spot by their finger-tips.

Steve King says Havant & Waterlooville must start winning matches and he wants one against his old club Dartford.

Elsewhere, struggling Dover Athletic face Hemel Hempstead, Truro City go to Aveley and it’s a coastal collision as Weymouth welcome Eastbourne Borough.
