All Of Saturday’s Vanarama National League Action

By Sam Elliott

Just three games survived the heavy rain across the National League this afternoon.

There were two in the National League North - and the important play-off battle between York City and Chorley ended all-square.

The 1-1 draw at Bootham Crescent was secured when the hosts’ Connor Smith poked home a cross.

Chorley went ahead after ten minutes, Alex Newby scoring a fantastic goal to give Matt Jansen’s men the advantage.

The other game in the league saw Leamington triumph 1-0 over FC United of Manchester.

Jamie Hood was the match winner and Leam are now six points clear of the bottom three after a valuable victory. They overtake FC United in the table and both won’t consider themselves save yet.

Just one game survived in the National League South - and Chippenham will be glad it did!

The Bluebirds got off to a great start against inconsistent Eastbourne when Alex Ferguson headed the hosts in front with three minutes on the clock.

Their lead was doubled when the Sports defence gave Andy Sandell too much room.

Josh Smile made the half-time cups of tea taste even better by making it 3-0 just before the break.

Karnell Chambers added the gloss late on to sign off a great day for Mark Colliers’ men.

There was frustration earlier in the day and a number of matches fell to the weather.

Wealdstone’s pitch just wasn’t fit for purpose and there was no play against East Thurrock United.

The same was confirmed at Evesham, as tenants Gloucester City couldn’t play their match with St Albans City.

There were two games off in the North as well on Saturday - AFC Telford didn’t travel to Blyth Spartansthanks to the heavy rain.

No game with at Blackwell Meadows. There will need to be a new date found for Darlington v Southport.
