All New Year's Day's National League North Action

By Sam Elliott

On this evidence it appears 2020 could be just as good as 2019 was for the National League North leaders.

King’s Lynn Town’s emphatic 3-0 win at Boston United sent out a message to everyone - a stylish eighth win in nine meant they began the New Year with 51 points on the board.

Adam Marriott scored goal number 23 of the season already with Jordan Richards and Michael Gash also finding the net as they took the Pilgrims to task.

Chasing York City didn’t make light work of out-of-form Bradford PA, an ultimately narrow 2-1 win at Bootham Crescent was confirmed by Macauley Langstaff and Jordan Burrow.

Chester won well and gave the others above them something to think about.

The third-place Seals thrashed Southport 4-0 to do the double over Liam Watson’s team - Akwasi Asante, 27, netting another double.

Brackley were the only team near the top not to win, Kettering keeping them at bay with a 1-1 draw at St James Park.

Guiseley have had a great festive period - they won their third game in a row at Farsley, Chris Sang getting the winner.

Altrincham are three-from-three too, they edged past Curzon Ashton 2-1 to move into the top half.

An incredible 93rd-minute equaliser from Levi Amantchi earned plucky Blyth Spartans point against North East rivals Gateshead in a game that saw four penalties awarded.

It ended 3-3 as the fans got their money’s worth in a classic derby.

It wasn’t the only one in the area. Spennymoor beat Darlington 3-1 to end the Quakers four-match winning run.

This local affair had plenty of late drama too as goals in the closing stages from Ben McKenna and Adam Boyes gave Moors the perfect start to 2020.

Hereford ended their miserable 11-game winless run by beating Kidderminster Harriers.

The Bulls’ much-needed 2-1 victory was delivered as a Cliff Moyo own goal and added to Victor Sodiende’s 50th minute opener.

Elsewhere, Gloucester City beat Leamington 2-1 while Alfreton and AFC Telford played out a 1-1 draw.
