Ainsley: Proud Day For Spennymoor Town

After defeating Stockport County in their first game in the Vanarama National League North manager Jason Ainsley said it was a moment the club will be proud of but they must move onto Tuesday now.

Records were broken for Spennymoor Town during their match against Stockport County, they scored their first goal and kept their first clean sheet, but most importantly their first win in the National League North, writes Tom Feaheny.

David Foley's goal proved to be the difference with a penalty save as well from Town keeper Dan Lawson thrown in, it was a special moment for the club.

Ainsley told the club's website why this meant so much to him.

"It is only one game, but to face a team like Stockport County and a manager like Jim Gannon it's a fantastic achievement, we executed our game plan perfectly.

"I thought we played some great stuff, they probably shaded it in the second-half, but I felt we deserved the three points."

He added: "We evolve all the time, you look at the setup that Stockport have, it is a proud moment for me."

They next face FC United of Manchester on Tuesday with Ainsley knowing that there are so many prestigious teams in this league.

"Going to a club like they have, the fan base that they have, it is special, hopefully we will put in that same level of performance and surprise a few people."
