Adam Virgo’s Alternative Top Four Signings So Far

By Sam Elliott

Some signings this summer have grabbed the headlines - others have gone under the radar.

There’s still a month to go until the season kicks-off and even longer to put the finishing touches on squads.

We asked Adam Virgo to run the rule over the players he predicts will really impress.

Offering an alternative to perhaps the more eye-catching and obvious close season deals, the BT Sport commentator has been studying what’s been going since the curtain came down at Wembley in mid-May.

Here’s his four to watch and what they will offer.

Connor Hall (Solihull Moors)

Really, really excited to see how he does this season. I saw him at close hand for Chorley during that FA Cup run and was very very surprised he didn't make a move after that. He's shown last season with his 20 goals that he certainly knows where the back of the net is.

I think this is a really exciting striker that can be very versatile, I've always enjoyed his movement and he's a very decent finisher, this could be a really exciting signing in for Andy Whing.

Dennon Lewis (Woking)

Again another player that I've always enjoyed watching play. I think it's important now for him to find a position.

He's been playing wingback, playing out wide, playing up front but I've just never really seen what position he is actually best at. But I do think this will be a really exciting sign for Woking if they can play him in the right system.

I think he can be very effective with the way that Darren [Sarll] likes to play. He plays on the front foot and I think Dennon could be joining the side where finally we can maybe see him score goals as well - which is probably the one area I've probably looked at that he possibly should do more.

Enzo Boldewijn (Eastleigh)

Was really excited to see Eastleigh sign this kind of player, I think it's progression on from last season where for me they exceeded expectations and had a real solid season.

I think we saw him at Notts County, those moments where he played very well however his move to Sutton maybe hasn't worked out as well as he had wanted it to.

I wouldn't say he's got anything to prove but I think this is a player that still wants to show that he's a quality player and I think sometimes when you've not had a good move to a club you come into a new club you want to show everybody what you are all about.

With Paul McCallum up front now they have decent service out wide with decent pace.

Grant Smith (Bromley)

An excellent signing for Bromley in my opinion - someone who's been Mr Consistent when he has been first choice goalkeeper.

After seeing him last season he was almost a one-man band for Yeovil and they probably would have been relegated a lot earlier if it wasn't for his performances.

The one thing that Andy Woodman has always had is stability at the back and defensively Bromley are always very strong and rely on clean sheets. For me they have signed one of the best goalkeepers in the National League.

Where next?
