The Altrincham manager remembers back to this time last year when his side were riding high and looking handily-placed to challenge for a first ever EFL promotion.
Then came January - and his squad was stripped as the vultures circled. And, well, you know the rest.
This weekend he takes his team south to Bromley and the highly rated manager hopes this time around the Robins will show they’ve got staying power.
The live TNT Sports game showcases the side sitting in second against the team who have crept up to fourth - and if recent results are anything to go by, there’s going to be good reason to turn in as the Christmas period really begins.
“We we’re in a similar position this time last year,” he told AltyTV. “Then we sold our frontline and then we sold our captain!
“It was always the plan to reinvest and we’ve done it with this model - hopefully now we can kick on with the vision that the club have shown.
“As all managers say, it’s not Christmas yet so I’ve not looked at the table. I would say that, but you’ll know I’m a liar! It’s a great position we find ourselves in.
“I’d much rather be there than at the other end of the table, the players have been fantastic. We just want to keep looking up, keep gathering points, and see where the season takes us."
Bromley counterpart Andy Woodman has had a busy week, signing winger Myles Weston from Dagenham and Maidstone United talent Levi Amantchi with a win at Southend United sandwiched in between.
He reckons this one will be worth tuning in for as he decides whether or not to throw the new faces into the mix.
“It’s going to be a really good game against a really good side,” said Woodman, who has seen his team win nine of their last ten league games at Hayes Lane.
“We’ve got to keep working as hard as we have been and getting as any points on the board over the busy Christmas period.”
