A Perfect Start Is All It Is Says Scunthorpe Manager Butler

Andy Butler refuses to read too much into his flying start as Scunthorpe United manager.

The new Iron boss says fledgling tables mean little to him and wants to see how the standings look in a couple of months.

It was a great start to his tenure after watching his team steamroller Brackley Town 3-0 at St James Park.

Last May’s defeated National League North Promotion Finalists offered little resistance but Butler was thrilled by his team’s attacking display in Northants.

Now he wants more of the same on Saturday when his team take on newcomers Marine.

He told Scunny’s website: “The eleven that started the game were excellent against a Brackley team who are predicted to finish in the top half, so I’m really pleased.

“But as I keep saying let’s not get carried away and let’s see where we are later down the line.”

He went on: It’s a good start but there’s a long way to go and that’s the message to the players as well.

“I’m pleased with the performance, pleased with the application and to come away to a good team and get three goals and a clean sheet is a great start.

“I think today you saw a full squad engaged in what we’ve asked them to do.”
