A Perfect Day For Farnborough As They Double Up For March

By Sam Elliott

It’s showtime in the Vanarama National League South and while we still don’t know the champions, there’s another team on everyone’s lips.

They do say there’s always that one club that comes from nowhere to crash the promotion party.

Farnborough appear to be that side this time around and Spencer Day could have been forgiven for giving up all hope when they started last month 12 points away from the play-off pack.

Those writing off their season hadn’t counted on a strong second wind. By the end of March they were just a single victory away and started April with a seventh win on the spin.

Despite losing to leaders Yeovil on the first weekend of the month, which incidentally was their only defeat since the start of February, nobody has scored more goals than Boro in March as they ended on a six-game winning streak.

You know when things are going your way when you turn up at Weston-super-Mare with five minutes to go before kick-off and you see your side cruise to a win - the traffic hit boss is the Manager of the Month!

They saw off a number of their play-off rivals in the shape of Worthing, Bath, Aveley and also collected three points at Weston, Dover and at home to Welling United.

With their form so incredible, there’s little surprise that it’s a Farnborough double.

Joe Haigh didn’t know what to expect when he signed from South Park in February but he quickly settled after forcing his way into his manager’s plans.

He has impressed so much that the club have already extended his contract until the end of next season!

Haigh hit the net three times last month in matches with Worthing, Aveley and Weston, where he also put one on a plate - adding another assist to his excellent season.

You can’t count the club out as they really peak at the perfect time!
