The Blues were relegated to the National League North on April 7 after a season to forget.
The club parted company with manager Marcus Bignot in the aftermath and are actively drawing up a shortlist to take them forward.
Calum McIntyre, the 24-year-old coach, has taken charge of first team affairs until Chester make a decision.
But one out-of-work boss to put his name forward is Billy Heath.
A year ago he was getting ready to lead FC Halifax Town to promotion via the North play-offs.
It was the second time inside 12 months he took a club up into the National League via that route - his achievements at North Ferriby United won’t ever be forgotten.
But a difficult period led to change at The Shay at the end of January and he is now looking for his next challenge in football.
Heath told the Leader: “My past two seasons in National League North, I’ve got two different clubs promoted.
“At Halifax we managed to bounce back after relegation, so I would say I’ve got the right credentials for a job like this one.”
