A Brilliant Weekend Awaits As October Starts In Some Style

By Sam Elliott

We’ve said so long to September and welcomed the arrival of October - but who will the new month be kind to?

Things are already starting to take shape with almost a quarter of the new season already played.

Title sponsors Vanarama outlined this week why the championship omens could be on leaders Barnet’s side. Dean Brennan would love to not only maintain his team’s two-point advantage on Saturday, but extend it.

The Bees are at home to Boston United, who now haven’t won in five matches. The table-toppers’ title rivals all have tough assignments and two of them meet.

Forest Green Rovers, the one Brennan says they have to all beat, travel to an Eastleigh side who are strong at home with four wins and two draws at the Silverlake so far.

York City are in second and the focus falls on the Minstermen with their match at Woking the live DAZN offering.

Adam Hinshelwood knows the 5.30pm fixture will really show what his side are all about - the Cards haven’t won in three with York undefeated in seven.

They may have drawn too many but Oldham Athletic - with still just one defeat all season - must surely be considered a credible challenger. Can they extended their brilliant run at home to inconsistent Solihull Moors this weekend?

Rochdale want to profit from any possible dropped points. The fourth-placed club are at Ebbsfleet United, who need to start picking up points and fast.

Gateshead have endured a difficult week with manager Rob Elliot off to Crawley. Ben Clark stands in for the home game against Wealdstone, who sense an opportunity to create a headline.

AFC Fylde fans are also still waiting to see who their new manager will be and are sure to be keeping a close eye on the stands when Aldershot Town pay a visit.

Altrincham are handily placed just outside the top seven but Braintree Town on their own patch are a tough nut to crack.

Tamworth will be very happy with their September and go to FC Halifax, who need to start beating the teams their fans think they should be beating.

Southend United fans haven’t see their side at their best at Roots Hall so far and they try again against Maidenhead United.

Hartlepool United are far too close to the bottom four for comfort now - can they climb with three points at home to Sutton United?

It’s all looked a little mid-table for Yeovil Town and Dagenham & Redbridge so far but a win does wonders for either side’s outlook.
